ARCKIT TAKES PART IN ARCHIKIDS FESTIVAL
Arckit was used as part of Open City’s flagship festival of architecture
We had an amazing time meeting enthusiastic and talented budding young architects at Archikids Festival last month. Here’s a quick update from the weekend!
Arckit was used as part of Open City’s flagship festival of architecture (archikids.org.uk) to help encourage young people to discover London’s fantastic buildings and architecture through practical, hands-on experiences. In collaboration with HTA Architects, we were lucky enough to host our Arckit scaled model design workshop at St. Botolph’s Algate, next to one of London’s most recognizable modern buildings – the Gherkin.
All the activities at the Archikids Festival were free of charge and located within the City of London’s Square Mile. The 30+ inspiring educational activities on offer were designed to help us discover more about the public spaces and places where we live, work and play each day. So what better way to be mindful and appreciative of London’s architecture than to build scaled models of your favourite structures?
Over the weekend, we watched as children and adults put into practice fundamental engineering, design and architecture skills whilst having great fun building Arckit models. It was great to see people with no previous experience in architecture or design follow their imaginations and building some impressive structures – you can see some of them proudly posing with their models below!
As a popular architectural design tool that is already widely used in schools and universities, we were keen to ask people for feedback and comments after using Arckit for the first time. New users often say that Arckit is like ‘Lego for adults’ or ‘reality Minecraft’, so we wanted to hear what people thought to the Arckit system. Many who came along had never used Arckit before, but intuitively grasped the basics within minutes and went on to create some incredible finished models.
You can see a selection of some of the models that were built over the Archikids Festival – a huge thank you to everyone took part and those who came by to see us.
