INTERVIEW: UNLEASH YOUR INNER ARCHITECT
Boot Camp interview Damien Murtagh about our new Arckit range
Listen to the interview below and find out how Arckit can unleash your inner architect!
Arckit inventor Damien Murtagh spoke to technology correspondent Fred Fishkin about what inspired him to develop Arckit and the benefits of using Arckit within education in this live interview exploring the new product range and future plans for the multi-award winning system.
Developed as an alternative to traditional cut and glue models – which are time consuming, expensive to make and wasteful – Damien began to develop a modular concept based around a ‘click and connect’ system to rekindle the art of model making. Today, Arckit opens up architecture to everyone for the first time ever, allowing users to design, build and modify precision models.
Damien was also asked about the STEAM benefits (science, technology, engineering, art, math) of Arckit. This is a popular area to focus on within the education sector at the moment. Our products encapsulate a lot of the elements and learning outcomes within STEAM, so we have received huge praise and endorsement from the STEAM community in the US.
Arckit teaches students about everything from scale, volume, measurement, design layout, the study of natural daylight, materials, colours – many skills essential to architecture and construction, but also useful for design in general. The system is also compatible with digital design tools through the use of digital Arckit components on platforms such as SketchUp and Revit.
The interview was also a chance to discuss the new products and developments which now include previously unseen components, a structures Education Programme, pre-printed Arckitexture sheets with images of real building materials, bespoke 3D printed components – as well as interchangeable add-on components and starter sets allowing users to ‘mix and match’ to achieve even more advanced building capabilities.
